Figgers Foundation Delivers Digital Access to Freedom Shores Elementary Students
December 05, 2024In December 2024, the Figgers Foundation distributed tablets to students at Freedom Shores Elementary, a Title 1 school serving many low-income families. This initiative ensured that students could access digital learning tools at home, helping bridge the technology gap and supporting their education beyond the classroom.
Dr. Sharrie Vereen, the school's Exceptional Student Education (ESE) coordinator with over 15 years of experience, emphasized the impact of these devices on students with special needs. The tablets allow them to reinforce lessons learned in school, providing the additional support and time they need to succeed.
Expanding this initiative allows more students and families to access digital resources, fostering greater educational engagement and even assisting parents with job searches. Education starts at home, and closing the digital divide plays a vital role in addressing the broader wealth gap.
The Figgers Foundation team worked seamlessly with school staff to distribute the tablets efficiently. Parents also received guidance on free educational apps and internet resources to maximize the benefits of these devices. Their dedication and accessibility made the process smooth and impactful for the Freedom Shores Elementary community.
