Figgers Foundation Provides Tablets to Support Coral Sunset Elementary Students
January 30, 2025In January, Coral Sunset Elementary became a beacon of educational opportunity in Boca Raton, Florida. The Figgers Foundation visited the school to distribute tablets to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) students. This initiative, aimed at bridging the digital divide, provided crucial access to technology for students from low-income households, ensuring they could fully engage in their education in and out of the classroom.
The school’s administration was pivotal in coordinating the distribution, ensuring each eligible student received a device. Katherine Bernard, the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) coordinator, emphasized the significance of this initiative, noting that as a Title I school, many families at Coral Sunset Elementary face economic hardships and lack access to essential technology. For these students, having a tablet means being able to complete assignments, access educational resources, and participate more fully in their learning experience.
“This program is truly life-changing for our students,” Bernard stated. “Many of our families do not have the means to provide their children with the technology needed to keep up with schoolwork. These tablets will help students complete their homework and open doors to learning opportunities that were previously out of reach.”
The impact of this initiative was immediately evident. Parents and caregivers expressed heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging that the tablets would alleviate some of their children's challenges in keeping up with their peers. In today’s digital age, where much of the educational curriculum relies on online resources, access to a personal device can make a substantial difference in a student’s academic trajectory.
Looking ahead, Bernard envisions expanding the program beyond students with IEPs. She hopes to extend tablet access to students with 504 plans and, ultimately, to every child at Coral Sunset Elementary. “This is an incredible program, and I would love to see every student benefit from it,” she said. “Equity in education means ensuring that all children, regardless of their circumstances, have the tools they need to succeed.”
The Figgers Foundation’s commitment to educational empowerment through technology is a testament to the transformative power of community support. By addressing the technological gap in Title I schools, initiatives like these ensure that students from underprivileged backgrounds are not left behind in an increasingly digital world.
This event at Coral Sunset Elementary highlights the profound impact that access to technology can have on young learners. By providing students with the tools they need to succeed, this initiative is not just supporting their education but investing in their future. As efforts continue to expand this program, the hope is that no child will face barriers to learning due to a lack of resources. Thanks to partnerships like the one between the Figgers Foundation and Coral Sunset Elementary, the dream of equitable access to education is becoming a reality, one tablet at a time.
