In the month of October, the Figgers Foundation launched a performance project that united kids from various sides of Leon County to participate in positive presentations of raps, skits, and poems. This program in title is Voices over Violence. Though it was challenging, it was rewarding.

In a resounding call for unity and positive transformation, the community gathered on November 10th, 2023 for the Stop the Violence summit, held at Cascades Park. This empowering event, marked by the participation of over 40 dynamic young individuals, provided a platform for the youth to voice their perspectives on prevalent issues. The summit unfolded as a testament to the potential of collaboration and investment in our younger generation.

As the evening unfolded, the youth took center stage, captivating a crowd of 600 eager listeners with their insightful expressions. The program, orchestrated by dedicated organizers, showcased a diverse range of talents, including thought-provoking raps, impactful skits, poignant poems, and captivating stepping dances. The authenticity and passion exuded by the young participants left an indelible mark on the hearts of those in attendance.

Darius Bake, the Director of The Performing Arts Center in Tallahassee, FL, was deeply moved by the performances, emphasizing, "Their voices are key to the change that our community needs." This sentiment was echoed by Stephanie Tolbert, the grandmother of one of the participants, who shared, "This is precisely what our youth needs. It encourages and empowers them to know that we, as a community, are listening."

Beyond the applause and admiration, the Figgers Foundation demonstrated their commitment to supporting the cause by generously gifting a total of $2500 to the performers. This gesture not only acknowledged the talent and dedication of the youth but also served as a tangible reinforcement of the community's belief in their potential to drive positive change.

In reflecting on the impact of the Stop the Violence summit, it becomes evident that investing in our youth is a catalyst for transformation. By providing them with a platform to be seen and heard, the community fosters an environment where their voices resonate with their peers. The ripple effect of this empowerment is poised to bring about a positive shift in the community dynamics.

As we celebrate the success of the summit, it becomes clear that our investment in the youth is an investment in the future. By partnering to empower our young generation, we are sowing the seeds for a brighter, more harmonious community, where the voices of the youth are not only acknowledged but also instrumental in shaping a better tomorrow. The Stop the Violence summit stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of collaboration in creating lasting change.
